Brian Thompson is The Director of Accounting & Finance of The Executive Leadership Council, an independent 501(c) 6 non-profit corporation and its 501 (c) 3 associate, The Executive Leadership Foundation. The Executive Leadership Council is the nation’s premier business association compromised of more than 400 of the most senior African American Executives in Fortune 500 companies, dedicated to providing African-American executives and high potential leaders with a network and leadership forum that adds perspective and direction to the achievement of excellence in business, economic and public policies for the African-American community, their corporations and the community at large.

In his role as The Director of Accounting & Finance, Brian directs the day-to-day operations of the accounting and finance departments, ensuring that The ELC and ELF adhere to GAAP principles and best practices in financial management. He has direct responsibility for the ELC’s investments, budget, asset management and financial risk management and is the organizations’ contact to their principal commercial and investment bankers. Brian serves as the staff liaison to the Finance and the Audit Committees of the Board of Directors, and the Investment Sub Committee. Since joining ELC in 2003, Brian played a key role in strengthening financial stability and reporting and has ensured that ELC and ELF have had clean audits. He was instrumental in working with the Treasurer and CEO in aligning the financial committees’ Roles and Responsibilities, their structure and membership. He also assisted in writing the Foundation’s Investment Strategy. Brian was also instrumental in helping to identify the best financing model for the ELC’s new headquarters office in Alexandria, VA and serves as ELC’s representative on the Building’s Owners Committee.

Prior to joining The Executive Leadership Council, Brian served as The Chief Accountant and Controller to large non-profits in the Washington DC area. He is a member of the American Association of Society Executives and the National Association of Black Accountants, and is also active in various volunteer organizations.

Brian attended the University of Maryland – UC, where he obtained a Bs. in Accounting.

The Tulsa Project:
The Council's Involvement with a Historic Initiative
New York – Survivors of the 1921 Tulsa Race Riots gave voice to a little-known and shameful chapter of history before hundreds of African American leaders from business, politics and media at the New York premiere of “Before They Die,” a documentary produced by Reginald Turner, CEO of Mportant Films, and Harvard Law Professor Charles J. Ogletree, Jr. The film is part of The Tulsa Project, a nonprofit foundation to raise awareness of the event and seek restitution for its survivors.
