On May 29, 2024, The ELC hosted a panel of experts to discuss the critical legal challenges and opportunities within Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the corporate sector.

The panel, moderated by ELC President & CEO Michael Hyter, featured vital thought leaders and legal experts, including David Lopez, University Professor of Law, Professor Alfred Slocum Scholar, and Co-Dean Emeritus at Rutgers Law School; Lissette Duran, ESG Counsel at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP; and ELC Member Juliette W. Pryor, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at Lowe’s.

The discussion focused on the impact of recent Supreme Court decisions and state regulations and the strategies companies can use to navigate this evolving environment while ensuring compliance and supporting their DEI goals. They emphasized the importance of legal departments partnering with other teams, conducting risk assessments, and proactively defending their DEI programs against legal challenges.
