Publications/News & Insights/Blog/ELC Scholar Spotlight – Brycen K. August

Brycen K. August is a second-year civil engineering major at Prairie View A&M University. In 2023, Brycen was awarded a $10,000 scholarship award sponsored by 3M to continue his studies.

Brycen recounts his experience as an ELC Scholar, “…I struggled to understand how my major connected with who I am as a human. I contemplated if I should continue my studies as an engineering major and if it would be worth it… And the answer is YES. It is worth it. I should stay the course – The ELC helped me to see that.”

As a leader in and out of the classroom, Brycen is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers and Student Council. He has also done countless amounts of community service with organizations inside of his hometown, Missouri City, TX. Brycen also attended the Roy G. Perry Engineering Summer Bridge Program where he received the award of the Most Outstanding Civil Engineer of the program and received a certification for his concrete mix design.

“The ELC’s Honors Symposium helped me I understand that my purpose can be fulfilled as an engineer… I can use my skills to engineer things that have a long-lasting and positive effect on people and community.” — Brycen K. August
