Publications/News & Insights/ELC Scholarship Award: HP Inc., Rubena Uyeh, Georgia State University

Rubena Uyeh is a senior at Georgia State University majoring in Computer Information Systems with a dual concentration in Cybersecurity and Data Analytics. In 2024, Rubena was awarded a scholarship from The Executive Leadership Council (ELC) sponsored by HP Inc. to support her academic journey and leadership development.

Rubena’s passion for technology began at just five years old when she encountered her first computer—playing a video game on a desktop. This early experience sparked her lifelong fascination with technology and its transformative potential.

Rubena found the community experience she had been seeking in the ELC’s Honors Symposium. “The culture, the community, and the essence were unmatched and truly something I have never experienced before,” she reflects on the symposium. “This experience has renewed my confidence in my abilities and my future as a leader in STEM.”

During the Honors Symposium, Rubena had the valuable opportunity to connect with ELC members and representatives from HP Inc.—the very company that sponsored her scholarship. This connection proved particularly meaningful as she later secured a senior internship with HP Inc., creating a full circle moment in her professional development journey.

“As a 2024 ELC Scholar, my experience has been nothing short of exceptional. Surrounded by high-achieving, ambitious individuals, I’ve felt inspired to continue striving for excellence,” Rubena shares.

Following graduation, Rubena plans to pursue a master’s degree in Cybersecurity, building upon her undergraduate foundation with the continued encouragement and support of the Executive Leadership Council and the professional network she has developed through her HP Inc. internship.

The ELC’s Scholarship Program remains committed to building a pipeline of Black corporate talent by supporting the academic achievement and development of Black college students. Through partnerships with corporate sponsors like HP Inc., The ELC provides both financial support and leadership development experiences, culminating in the week-long Honors Symposium that has proven transformative for scholars like Rubena Uyeh.
