Fintech company Fiserv‘s Clover brand has named Tabitha Brown as its first chief empowerment officer.

The creative visionary, entrepreneur, and Emmy Award-winning TV personality will work with Clover’s small and midsized business customers as an advocate and ambassador.

Fiserv said that although the 33 million SMBs in the U.S. account for nearly 48% of private-sector employment, about 1.6 million new jobs per year, and generate $5.3 trillion in annual revenue, one-half of them fail within five years of opening.

The company plans to tap Brown’s “unique mix of motivation, perseverance, and limitless spirit” to empower and share untold stories of small business owners. She will do this by connecting with SMB owners and presenting them with opportunities to positively impact their lives and businesses.

Additionally, she will work to build further connections between Clover’s leadership and the SMB communities that it serves, and she will champion Clover’s employees, stakeholders, and partners to get involved in these efforts.

Brown’s resume includes being the co-founder and CEO of her own haircare line, Donna’s Recipe. She has also worked with Target to launch on product lines in multiple categories and with McCormick on a signature line of seasoning blends and mixes.

She is a two-time New York Times bestselling author and an NAACP Image Award Winner, acting in theatrical features such as Showtime’s The Chi, executive-producing and hosting Food Network vegan cooking competition show, It’s CompliPlated, and co-creating and hosting children’s show Tab Time.

“Tabitha brings an invaluable perspective on the lived experiences of small business owners, understanding their struggles and giving voice to their dreams and ambitions in a way that only few can,” Fiserv chief brand, marketing, and communications officer, Shannon Watkins, said in a statement. “We’re honored to help bring her wisdom and authenticity to small businesses across the globe, because when we lift small businesses, we lift communities and can change the world.”

Brown added, “Small businesses are my passion. The equity in helping them is the joy you bring to someone’s household and community. My goal is to always uplift and empower small businesses and encourage others to do the same in their communities. I’m overjoyed to work with Clover to do my part.”
