The ELC celebrates Shirley Chisholm Day!
The life of Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress and the first woman to seek the Democratic presidential nomination will now be celebrated on Nov. 30.
The New York City Council recently passed a resolution designating the day as “Shirley Chisholm Day” to honor the Bedford-Stuyvesant resident and political pioneer. The move comes ahead of what would’ve been Chisholm’s 100th birthday on Nov. 30, 2025.
Her courage, vision, and relentless fight for justice continue to inspire generations. Let’s celebrate her groundbreaking achievements and commitment to breaking barriers for all.
