Chelsea Tamara Benton, and I am a current Health Science major on the pre-medical track with a Minor in Management and Organization from Detroit Michigan. As a sophomore, I currently hold 5 leadership positions and I am a member in three professional development programs on campus. Following, I take part in community service with the Bonner Sholars program where I volunteer at K-5 schools in the Atlanta area. I aspire to pursue a career in healthcare starting out as a physician (Obstetrician- Gynecologist) then venturing into other health-related avenues such as healthcare policy concerning women s healthcare and biotechnology (developing medical devices that further the progression of women s health). Additionally, I am interested in utilizing my passion for business and consulting through pursuing health-consulting/ management as well.

Maya Blasingame is a junior, biology major, and Ethel Waddell Githii honors program student at Spelman College interested in pursuing an MD/Ph.D. in the future. Her career interests include becoming a physician-scientist and conducting neuroscience research. Blasingame is also passionate about advocacy and ensuring that underrepresented voices will be heard and valued in STEM and medical research in the future and providing pathways to ensure all communities are being treated equitably in healthcare. Blasingame is a member of the Department of Defense Research Scholars and LINCS Scholar, where she serves as a student in Dr. Yonas Tekle’s Lab in the Biology department. She also is a member of the Student Ambassador Program. Blasingame is also dedicated to community outreach and serves as a research intern for the In Those Genes Podcast, eboard member of The Blue Record Podcast, Spelman MAPS, and of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Alana Burrell is a junior computer science major at Spelman College who aspires to earn a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering from her dream engineering institution, Georgia Tech. Burrell has a commitment to excellence in both her academic and professional presence. Burrell has chartered two organizations at her past school, Perimeter College. She served as a student senator, and as a campus ambassador to three different programs while maintaining a 3.8 major GPA. She has been awarded over 12 prestigious awards, grants, and scholarships throughout her collegiate career, most notably the Assistance league of Atlanta scholarship, consecutive invitations to the dean’s list, and the 2019 Carl V. Patton award. In her free time, Burrell combines her interests of social justice/liberation with her skills of programming to prototype apps that address the needs of low-income and stigmatized minority communities.

Alyssa Cabezas is a first-generation, honor roll student at Spelman College from Vicksburg, Mississippi. She is a political science major on the pre-law track. This year she has the pleasure of being a Ford First-Generation Mentor and a newly inducted member into the Eta Kappa Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. During her time on campus, she was heavily involved in community service organizations and mentorship programs such as Gifted Girls of Grace Inc. and GRL PWR where she mentored young girls. During Cabezas’s sophomore year, she served as the 2019-2020 Sophomore Class President. Next year, she will lead as the 2021-2022 Senior Class President. Cabezas is very passionate about serving her community and had a valuable experience as an intern for the MLK Jr. Merchants Association where she fought for equity within the West End of Atlanta. She recently conducted research on “How COVID-19 has disproportionately affected students from different socioeconomic backgrounds?” this past summer.

With a passion for the legal field, she has set her sights on pursuing a law degree at Drexel Kline School of Law. Morgan has been captivated by the significance of diversity in both political science and the legal field. She recognizes the vital role that diverse perspectives play in shaping policies and laws that truly reflect the needs and aspirations of all individuals.
